Honor Guard
Meeting 2nd Tuesday 3:00 PM
Military Honors for Deceased Veterans
All honorably discharged veterans are entitled to full Military Honors at burial. The Department of Defense can not always provide personnel for this purpose. With a request by the family, coordinated with the funeral director, Post 28 will render to the deceased the honors they deserve. Three volleys by the firing squad, the sounding of taps, the folding of the American Flag and presentation to the next of kin. Prior to burial the Post can also guard the casket at viewing if requested.
Ceremonial Functions, Parades and Community Awareness
One of the primary roles of an Honor Guard is to perform at funerals and memorial services for fallen members. Honor Guards often participate in parades, public events, and official ceremonies. They present colors, carry flags, and conduct drills with precision.
Honor Guards are often responsible for the proper folding, presentation, and safeguarding of national flags. This can include the presentation of flags to family members during funerals. Beyond formal ceremonies, Honor Guards may engage with the community by participating in outreach events and educational programs.
