Who we are

American Legion Website

The American Legion was chartered by Congress in 1919 as a patriotic, mutual-help, war-time veterans organization. A community-service organization which now numbers nearly 3 million members — men and women — in nearly 15,000 American Legion Posts worldwide. These Posts are organized into 55 Departments — one each for the 50 states, the District of Columbia, Puerto Rico, France, Mexico, and the Philippines.

The American Legion’s national headquarters is in Indianapolis, Indiana, with additional offices in Washington, DC. In addition to thousands of volunteers serving in leadership and program implementation capacities in local communities to the Legion’s standing national commissions and committees, the national organization has a regular full-time staff of about 300 employees.

Post History

Founded in 1920

American Legion Post 28 in Easton, PA, has a proud legacy of service and camaraderie. Established by a group of World War I veterans and local patriots, the post quickly became a beacon of support for veterans and their families. Over the decades, it has played a vital role in the community, organizing patriotic events, supporting veterans in need, and honoring the sacrifices of those who served.

Throughout its history, Post 28 has continually adapted to the changing needs of veterans and the community. From assisting veterans during World War II to advocating for veterans’ rights during the turbulent 1960s, the post has been a steadfast source of support. In the 21st century, Post 28 remains dedicated to its mission of serving veterans, fostering a sense of patriotism, and promoting the principles of liberty and democracy that make the United States a beacon of freedom.
